Fire destroys trees on 20 acres of land in Shivamogga
Residents alerted firefighters who rushed to the scene to put out the flame around 11:30 a.m.

A fire that broke out at Ragigudda near Shantinagar in the city has turned trees including teak and eucalyptus grown on more than 20 acres of land to ashes.
A 20-member team, including firefighters and rangers, extinguished the flame which quickly spread across the hill during their five-hour operation.
Forest Department sources said that although it is revenue land, the Forest Department had planted trees on the hill after leasing it. The total area of the hill is about 103 acres. Of this, the trees, grown on more than 20 acres, were completely burned. They suspected that it was the work of some miscreants and not a forest fire.
The fire that broke out on the hill quickly engulfed more than 25 acres of land due to dry leaves. Residents alerted firefighters who rushed to the scene to put out the flame around 11:30 a.m. But they had a difficult task because the flame spread quickly due to the wind. After a five-hour operation, they extinguished the flame with the help of rangers.
