Tottenham are said to be in a race with Premier League rivals Brighton and Bundesliga side RB Leipzig in their bid to sign a winger from Juventus.
The north London club are set for a busy January with Antonio Conte keen to add at least two quality players to his squad. However, sporting director Fabio Paratici also has a keen eye on the future.
While Conte favors recruiting experienced talent, hence the summer moves of Fraser Forster, Ivan Perisic, Richarlison, Yves Bissouma and Clement Lenglet, Paratici also has a file to plan for in the future.
This was demonstrated when Tottenham brought in Sheffield United’s Will Lankshear in the last window. And the striker has already made an impression by scoring twice on his Under-18 debut, while also scoring in the UEFA Youth League.
Now it looks like Paratici are looking to work their magic by signing Juve star Samuel Iling-Junior.
italian newspaper Tutosport claims Spurs have a genuine interest in the winger. However, they face competition from Brighton and Leipzig for his signature.
Iling-Junior was actually born in England and started his career at Chelsea’s academy before joining Juve in 2020. At that time, he was also wanted by PSG, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.
The 19-year-old normally plays on the left wing and broke into the Juventus first team this season.
Iling-Junior came off the bench against Benfica in the Champions League last month and scored twice. This cameo led the Italian media to call her performance “extraordinary”.
But Athleticism add that Juve are yet to bind the player to a long-term contract. To that end, clubs have started circling around the impressive talent.
Paratici faces tough task to sign Juve starlet
However, Paratici will need to show conviction in an attempt to tempt the player to North London.
Brighton and Leipzig are both famous for their track record of picking Europe’s best young talent. But Paratici’s links with Juve could give him an advantage.
Iling-Junior is seen as the potential long-term successor to Son Heung-min, who has been linked with a shock estrangement from Tottenham this season after an indifferent start to the new campaign.
The South Korean could also miss the next World Cup after being operated on his fractured cheekbone.
Son was injured in the Champions League victory in Marseille and faces a race against time to be fit for the tournament in Qatar.
Tottenham return to the Premier League on Sunday hosting Liverpool.
A win for Conte’s men will allow them to close the gap to current bests Manchester City and Arsenal.
